Christine Cummings, MD
Our Team
Woman in Chief
I love helping students learn to help themselves. For over fifteen years, I’ve been helping students improve their performance in classes and on tests, as well as guiding them as they pursue their educational and professional goals.
It is a privilege to help many different types of students in their educational and professional journeys. I learn from my students every day as they share what interests them, whether it’s why veterinarians perform x-rays prior to delivering puppies, or how to bake a chocolate muffin.
Outside of tutoring, I’m a pediatric resident at one of the top children’s hospitals in the country. I received my undergraduate degree in Biology and Society from Cornell University and attended the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell for medical school. Prior to medical school, I was a 6th grade science teacher in Atlanta as part of the Teach for America program. Throughout my own educational journey, I have been an advocate for increasing diversity and inclusion, developing curricula, leading committees and starting Next GenPediatricians, an organization that supports underrepresented minorities in the medical field.
Fun facts about me
I watch ABC’s “The View” every day. Yes. Every. Single. Day.
Give me any documentary. I’ll watch it.
I love traveling, especially with Bryant. We go on an annual trip with Lowry and his wife, Gina. I have gotten some of my best vacation recs from my students.
I’m planning to run the 2023 NYC Marathon in honor of a few of my patients.
I’m a good tutor because
I really like spending quality time with people and getting to know them deeply.
I never considered myself the smartest kid in the classroom. Instead, I was really good at navigating resources, and figuring out who to ask for help.
Karl Roberts, MD PhD Candidate
Intellectual Wizard
I love translating complex topics into ideas that make sense to my students. There is nothing more satisfying than when a student comes to understand something they didn’t think they were capable of understanding before.
I have been a New Yorker all my life. Born and raised in Brooklyn, I attended Hunter College in Manhattan for my BA in Biology and Biochemistry and an MA in Biology. I am currently an MD-PhD Candidate at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx. As a researcher, my focus is molecular biology and genetics, and I’m particularly interested in finding novel means of understanding and treating coagulation disorders.
I have tutored students for over ten years. Prior to medical school, I was a volunteer science and math tutor for middle school students at Scholar Skills Christian Academy. I have tutored students of many different ages, from high schoolers, to college students, to medical students, and have tutored in a variety of subjects, including algebra, chemistry, biology, and anatomy.
Christine and I have been study buddies throughout different points in our academic careers, so when she asked me to join her in launching So Unique, it felt very natural. We think differently and have different strengths, which is part of why I think we complement each other so well. We often hear from students that they like learning from both of us, because we give them different perspectives.
Fun facts about me
I’m an avid video gamer. Don’t you dare challenge me in Super Smash Bros unless you’re ready for some pain.
I love playing music. I play classical piano, and also play weekly at my church.
I’m a good tutor because
I’m very patient. That’s one thing laboratory research and tutoring have in common.
I’ll go above and beyond for my students. I care deeply about them as individuals, and want to see them succeed.
Bryant Liverpool, MSA
The Golden Touch
Born and raised in New York City, my favorite subject has been math since elementary school, which naturally led me into the field of accounting and finance. Now, I’m a CPA, currently working as a Senior Associate at CBIZ Marks Paneth. Prior to my current role, I worked at the Pratt Institute, a non-profit educational institution, in Brooklyn. I love contributing to the team, and am detail-oriented, helping think through the finer points of any decision.
I studied Business Administration at Morehouse College, and obtained a Master of Science in Accounting from the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College.
Beyond work, I enjoy playing pickup basketball after work at local courts in Philadelphia. Like Christine, I also love to travel, and we’ve been to many places together. I also like playing video and arcade games, meeting up with friends frequently to play Super Smash Bros (watch out, Karl!). I have a passion for helping others, and am glad to be part of So Unique, helping students find their path.
Fun facts about me
I play on the same kickball team as Christine, Lowry and his wife, Gina. We wear bright orange shirts.
I won a 6th grade class competition for reciting the most digits of Pi.
I've studied with a caramel latte at every Think Coffee in NYC.
Lowry Yankwich, JD
Prose Extraordinaire
I’m a lawyer and podcast producer, soon to be working at LeVan Stapleton Segal and Cochran, a litigation boutique with a specialty in First Amendment and media law. I love to write, and enjoy the challenge of writing for different audiences, a skill that I think has much in common with teaching.
I recently graduated from Harvard Law School, where I was Co-President of the Recording Artists Project, a student organization helping emerging musicians in the Boston area. Prior to law school, I was a policy researcher at Environmental Defense Fund. I graduated from Stanford University with a degree in History.
I have tutored since I was in high school, helping students with math, science, and writing courses. I worked as a writing tutor in college, and co-taught negotiation in law school. I love tutoring because I get to learn how my students think and, more generally, how they see the world.
Fun facts about me
Like Karl, I love classical music, and have played classical piano much of my life. I also sing, but not as well.
I’ve made two podcasts about classical music and the intense connections some people have to it—“30 Bach” and “The Tonic.”
I love surfing, mainly just to sit out in the water. My local spot is in Atlantic City.
